Although West Africa is one of the most beautiful regions on the African Continent, it is probably least known, especially by persons here in the United States. While many of us still live in our native West Africa, many others are dispersed worldwide for different reasons. We are all Africans, no matter where we find ourselves. We have overcome many challenges, wars, famines, economic downturns, and are still overcoming others. Yet, we have survived and thrived. It is time now to take our survival to a new level. We want success for ourselves and our families just as the rest of the world. We are many different languages/dialects, different religions, different appearances, but we are all Africans! Those in the Western countries, particularly in the United States have come to recognize us as sharing the same ancestors as those African-Americans and others who were enslaved. Sharing more about our culture is crucial to the reconnection of African-Americans and others throughout the Diaspora with our shared ancestral past. Africa is a very large continent,
www.africa.upenn.edu/ and West Africa is only one of its many regions. We want you to come to know us as a continent rich in culture, traditions, history, wealth, struggles, and challenges. We bring different
ways of knowing into today's global dialogue, and we want to be heard. We will introduce you to our beauty, our culture, our struggles, and most of all to the people. Come with us on this long overdue journey! We recommend this site to all who want to learn.
