Friends United will host a meeting on June 11, 2006 in Bellflower, California at the home of Ben Daouda and Gloria Toure'. Friends United was established as a not for profit organization with the goal of providing a warm and friendly supportive organization in which persons from throughout the African Diaspora could come together for social events, and support each other in the event of family crisis, celebrations, etc.

This briefing is being organized by the “Holocaust and the United Nations” Outreach Programme in the context of General Assembly Resolution 60/7. This resolution “urges Member States to develop educational programmes that will inculcate future generations with the lessons of the Holocaust” and “requests the Secretary-General to establish a programme of outreach on the subject of the ‘Holocaust and the United Nations’ as well
as measures to mobilize civil society for Holocaust remembrance and education in order to help to prevent  future acts of genocide.”

DJERELON.   With Prince Diabate leading on kora, kamelen n'goni and vocals, this  new release features an array of traditional instruments performed by  some of Guinea's finest musicians.  Recorded this winter in Conakry,  it is arranged and produced by Kante Manfila, guitarist and arranger  for Salif Keita.  With this independently-produced album, his first
in five years, Prince Diabate and his kora return to roots. 

 

Drawing on the musical influences of the Malinke, Susu and Peulh
people from Guinea, this semi-acoustic album is traditional in

The DPI/NGO Section held its regular weekly NGO briefing on 13 April 2006 on the topic of Changing Realities: Indigenous Peoples in the next decade.


Aframglobal is urging increasing numbers of Africans to participate in such forums, to bring our stories and experiences into all dialogues on human rights.
